Crosspost: 2010 Trailwork Recap

Postby diggingtrail » Mon Jan 03, 2011 10:40 am

At the beginning of 2010 I challenged members of the club to volunteer 1000 hours in honor of the 10 year anniversary of YAMBA. You guys and gals stepped up to that challenge and not only met it, but you smashed it.

Total 2010 trailwork hours: 1,406

Work for the year began in earnest in January on Rusty Chair.

There was a pause on Rusty Chair one work day due to rain. But a little rain wasn't enough to keep us away from trailwork.

Over the months the trail slowly started to take shape as YAMBA members toiled away thru the summer heat.

Pizza was a reward for all the handwork one afternoon.

It took until the end of summer to finish off Rusty Chair, but it was well worth the effort!

In early spring we had learned that YAMBA was awarded a visit from the IMBA Trail Care Crew. We were honored to have Chris and Leslie visit in October and help layout "Copperhead" at The Lakes. They also gave a free trailbuilding seminar that was attended by -- people, followed by hands on work starting the build on Copperhead.

The weekend after the IMBA TCC visit YAMBA members were hard at work again. This time helping Nathan Wagner with his Eagle Scout project at Rocky Ridge, the layout and building of "Broken Arrow". Broken Arrow ties the back picnic area in to Rusty Chair. Broken Arrow was the last of the trailworks for the year and was completed in just 3 work sessions!

nice work! I've really enjoyed all the new and improved trails, and they seem to keep getting better. How about some information on "Copperhead"!
cheers

Thanks Nathan.
Work will continue on Copperhead starting in March or April. There are a few maintenance projects, weather permitting, that need to be done first. I also want to wait for at least 40*f weather to do the bench cutting on there. Hopefully with a good turnout it will only take 3-4 work sessions which would put completion around beginning to end of May.
