Trails open

Postby mtmajor » Tue Apr 26, 2011 4:16 pm

I noticed on my way home from work the sign on water st. said trails are open.
It's been awhile since i've seen that.
Get em while they are hot!
Looking at the weather forecast I don't think that they will stay open for long.
I will keep my fingers crossed though.

Rode the lakes today, the copperhead trail is real good (both directions), will be even better
once it gets worn-in.
There are two big downed tree areas, one is on 3A, if you park at the boat launch and take
the high trail past the houses on the left (to go over to lake williams) , after the houses, half
way down the long fire trail, it`s hard to get through, I had to climb through it, looks like
2 big trees fell together.
A real big mess of trees on trail 1 , if you ride the dam breast to enter trail 1 and make a left
into the single track, there`s a BIG bunch of trees right on the trail .
Everything else looked pretty good, of what I rode.

Trail 1 is now open. I think that was the most challenging blockage I have cleared to date. Didn't have time to get to 3 today but it's on my list.

That is strange. I'm pretty sure the sign at the George St. gravel lot said open yesterday. :?

I called Sat morning and the parks message said the lakes were closed so it has been closed since the heavy rain late in the week.

Trail 3 is now passable. The job isn't finished and it ain't pretty, but it's open.

Scott,
Thanks a bunch for the chainsaw work on those two sections, they
were nasty ones, now all we need is some heat and sunshine for the lakes trails.

Jody
You're Welcome! Thanks for the detailed reports. Really helps to have a good idea of where to go and what I'm dealing with.
